Why I’m the Right Person to Represent Your Brand

Let’s be honest—anyone can dust bottles and tidy a shelf. But not everyone can protect your brand, elevate its presence, and speak the language of retail fluently.

With 44 years of experience in wine and retail, I know exactly how the retail machine works—from the store floor to the back dock, from the planogram to the impulse buys at checkout. I’ve walked the aisles, managed the relationships, and built brands from scratch in some of the most competitive retail environments in Australia.

That experience is what makes Brett’s Bottle Pigs more than just another merchandising service.

This isn’t a gig economy side hustle. I’m not sending in casual staff or fly-by-night contractors. There’s no risk of someone representing your label without a clue about wine—or worse, someone without a police clearance creating issues with store staff, customers, or managers. A single wrong interaction can cause irreparable brand damage—and no amount of bottle polishing will fix that.

When you work with me, you get:

  • A true brand advocate
  • Someone who treats your reputation like it’s their own
  • A service backed by decades of insight, professionalism, and care.

I’ve built brands from scratch. I’ve hustled for shelf space, navigated the politics, and worn out more than a few pairs of shoes doing the rounds. But with retirement a few years off, I’m not interested in starting over to build someone else’s empire from the ground up.

These days, I’m playing smarter. I’m staying sharp, staying in the game, and using every bit of what I’ve learned to protect and elevate the brands already in market.

This gig isn’t about ego or empire-building. It’s about giving producers something rare: someone who genuinely understands the stakes, knows how the system works, and still gets a kick out of seeing a label perfectly faced up and looking its best.

And importantly—I’m here to complement your existing sales team, not compete with them. I’ll be their ears and their eyes on the ground when your reps can’t be there, helping to reinforce their efforts and make sure your brand doesn’t slip through the cracks between calls, visits, or rotations.

You don’t need a merchandiser.
You need someone who’s been around long enough to know how to do it right—and still gives a damn. You need a bottle pig.

Bottle Pig (noun)

A term of endearment in the 1990’s but probably now banned and was bestowed upon . . .
A rare breed of liquor store casual, revered for their unmatched ability to juggle the sacred tasks of keeping the wine fridges stocked on busy Friday nights, expertly facing shelves & dusting. They exist in the background like a silent ninja, working their magic without a word, and never once asking “what do you want me to do now, boss?”.
